Hello, I really enjoy using WriteRush , it actually helped me reach 8k words, I was so happy. I was trying to delete all the file because it felt clattered but after that I can't open up like it appeared like this. I tried delete the app and redownload it again, but it keeps looking like this :') aaaah help i like this app

(3 edits) (+2)

it look like this, i can still type but it wont let me save any of the file and the notification doesnt appear. I'm using the 64x window 3.10 version. The web version still work tho

(+1)

Hey! Sorry for the late response. Errors like this appear when the primary JS data object doesn't load correctly. I'll have to review the file-deleting code and figure out why this happened.

If you can, reset the data in settings (Settings --> Other --> Reset Data). This should fix the issue. If it doesn't, use the web version for now.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I'll fix this as soon as possible so this doesn't happen to anyone else.

(+1)

Thank you for responding to my reply.

Unfortunately, I can't access the File, Setting, and Data option, so I have to use the web version for now.

Also, could you check out the bursting confetti when the word count manages to reach 8k words? This happened whenever I switched to another file with 8k words as the first chapter. The computer slowed down because of sheer volume the confetti it let out. I don't know if it because I have a CPU Laptop or something else.

Good luck fixing it, I really enjoyed WriteRush.

(+2)

OK, I figured out why the file-deleting error occurred. I'll release a fix soon.

I'll also fix the error you mentioned here. I've known about this for a bit, but I have been procrastinating on fixing it 😅.

Thanks so much for helping improve WriteRush! Happy writing!

Happy writing too, thank you so much for replying to messages and fixed the errors. I hope you're doing great with your project. Sorry my english is a bit bad, it isn't my mother language.

(+2)

Hello, I don't know if it's a Windows problem, but the program no longer plays the “celebration” music when I reach 100% of writing. I've looked in the audio settings and it indicates that there is audio in the program, it just doesn't play anymore.

(+1)

Hmmm. Not sure why that happens, but I'll look into it.

Thanks for bringing it to my attention! And thanks for using WriteRush!

(+3)

Love this tool to bits, it's helped me write out a few ideas by now, but I really must ask if there'll ever be volume support

Some of the typing sounds I think are way too loud for comfort and the writing goal completion noise always scares the bajeezus out of me whenever it plays, I'd love for a way to either lower its volume or turn it off entirely

(+3)

Hey there! I'm so happy you enjoy WriteRush!

For your suggestion, you thought of a great idea. This is something I need to add.

I'm currently working on other projects, but when I come back to WriteRush, I'll do this!

Thanks for your patience, and happy writing!

(+2)

hey there! i just started using writerush and so far i absolutely love it. i only seem to be encountering one hiccup: the notes section doesn't seem to use the same font rules as the writing section! i can't seem to change the font or font-size of the notes section at all. ideally, i'd like it to match, or to be able to control them separately, than to have the notes stuck with the default. i don't suppose that's possible?

Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I've been busy lately.

I'm super glad you enjoy WriteRush! As for the note section font and font size, I can add an option for that later. But I'm currently working on other projects. I'll likely come back to WriteRush in about 6 months.

Thanks for being patient. And I hope WriteRush continues to help you on your writing journey!

(+1)

I came to wish you happy holidays!

I would like to thank you for this incredible software that helps me so much on a daily basis.

Thank you for doing something that changed my writing life!  :)))

(+1)

Thanks so much!!

I'm so glad that WriteRush helps you, and I hope it can continue helping you in the future!

Happy holidays!

Hi! I love WriteRush so much i stg. However, my computer just died and i was wondering why i cant use it on android? No matter what i do it doesnt open right from the web.zip. I was using 3.10, do you have any suggestions?

Edit: im on my computer now and nothing is working. ive tried to download all 3 options and i cant type anything on it, its just a white screen.

(+1)

Hey, thanks for your support of WriteRush!

For the web version (WriteRush v3.10 WEB.zip), you double-click 'index.html' to run it. This should open it in a browser tab. And it works on all platforms. You must first unzip it, though.

And fair warning, WriteRush should work on mobile, but the formatting isn't that great. I have it there as an option, but I haven't invested much time in doing it for mobile. That being said, you should be able to unzip the WriteRush file, and then double-click `index.html`. This will open WriteRush in a browser (not a dedicated Android app, that will probably come in a later update).

As for the white screen, I'm not sure why that would happen. Is the web version still working? And would you mind sending a screenshot so I can more accurately see what's happening? You should be able to use the web version until it works again.

Thanks, and I hope I can fix this for you!

(+1)

i fixed it somehow. it wasnt letting me click for some reason. now it works, i think this was just human error, my bad. thank you for your support!!

Super glad to hear it! And now worries at all, I'm glad you enjoy WriteRush!

(1 edit) (+2)

Hey! I was just trying to download this for my mac but both downloads seem to result in a weird "nwjs" file rather than a file titled something I'd expect to match up with WriteRush? Searching "nwjs" online leads to a lot of threads about malware so it gave me a little spook. Is this what the actual file for this application is called?

(1 edit) (+2)

Hey there, super sorry for the late reply! I wasn't checking itch.io because of the Thanksgiving break.

NW.js is an open-source project that allows people to turn web apps like WriteRush (made with Javascript, HTML, and CSS) into desktop apps. I use Web2Executable (which uses NW.js) to convert them into desktop apps. You can find that here. NW.js is trusted and safe; it has almost 40K stars on github.

NW.js is not malicious. It's a tool used to create programs. Someone must have used it to create a virus, which is why viruses show when you look it up.

It's safe to run. But if you're still wary of it, you can use the web version, which doesn't use NW.js.

Also, I don't have a mac to test the mac version, but `nwjs.app` should run WriteRush on mac.

Hope this helps, and if you have any more questions, ask me!

(+2)

Ohh! Thank you so much for the response, I'm not too familiar with these things.

Totally didn't want to pull you away from a restful holiday break. Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving!: )

(+1)

I'm in shock with the update. I'm so excited about everything, it's so beautiful! You outdid yourself, I swear my mouth dropped open when I saw it.

Today is my lucky day!

You did an amazing job, wow!

(+1)

Haha thanks so much! I hope you enjoy it

I wanted to indicate a bug: it could be my computer, but twice the program crashed with me using the “stars.” The decoration stays on the screen frozen, but I can still write. Then I close it, open it again and it works again.

Thanks for telling me! I'll definitely fix this!

(+1)

I came back to say how smooth the app is. It's so great to see it grow!

(+1)

Thanks so much! I really appreciate it; and I plan on making it even better!

(+1)

This is such a great tool for the time of Nanowrimo. Yesterday I wrote 3K with the help of WriteRush <3

(+1)

So glad to hear that! Also, the new update should come soon. I've been working on other projects, so that's why this one's taking longer. Good luck on NaNoWriMo!

(+2)

ironically i found this while i should've been writing lol. as soon as i finish collecting all these tools i'll def be using this!

(+2)

Thanks for checking out WriteRush! I hope you enjoy it!

(+2)

Hi!! I wanted to drop by and say I absolutely love WriteRush so far! I've not been using it for long, but it's already helped me work on a project I've been procrastinating on. It's such a clean UI and very easy to work with. I do have a few suggestions though! I think it would be nice to have the ability to toggle which menus are hidden and which ones aren't. That way it's more customizable, and less distracting for those who get sidetracked by the cool hide-away menu feature lol.

Also, would it be possible to add a way to add custom sounds? I'm coming here from StimuWrite and while the sounds here are nice, none of them do it the same for me like some of the sounds there did.

But overall, everything is so cool! I'm super impressed with just how good this looks, and the overall functionality is super nice to have. I'm very excited to see what's to come for WriteRush in the future!

(+2)

Hey, I'm super happy that WriteRush is helping you with your writing projects, and I hope WriteRush can keep helping you with your writing journey!

For your first suggestion, I'll probably add a togglable button that will make the chapter sidebar stay open. That would likely be helpful for many people.

For your second suggestion, I'll definitely add more typing sounds. That's been on my to-do list for a while, but I've been procrastinating it lol. I don't think custom sounds would work (because of how indexedDB functions), but I'll see if I can do it anyway. The sounds in WriteRush currently aren't that good, so I'll probably update those. If you have typing sound suggestions (or any suggestions in general), tell me and I'll add them!

Thanks so much, and have fun using WriteRush!

(+2)

Ahh, I see. Thanks for considering it though! As for sound suggestions, my favorites from StimuWrite were the bubble pop sound effect and the scribble sound effect. I also think something like a mechanical keyboard sound or some paper-ish sounds would be good as well.

Thanks for making such a neat program!

(+1)

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll add those!

(+1)

Oh! The update is so good! Everything so intuitive! I really loved it! Thank you very much for the improvements!

(+1)

Thanks so much! Glad to see you enjoy it!

(+1)

AVG didn't like this app so I have to wait for their threat labs to analyze it, do you have any idea what would cause a false positive?

(+1)

If I had to guess, it's because WriteRush hasn't been installed enough times for AVG to allowlist it and mark it as safe.

Other than that, I'm not sure what would cause the false positive. The desktop applications are built using Web2Executable (which uses NW.js). These are both open-source. The desktop versions use the same code as the web version, which you can find on GitHub and itch.

In the meantime, you can use WriteRush by downloading the "WriteRush v3.8 (ALL).zip" version, which runs in your browser. Also, I'll probably change the name of it "WEB" in the next update, because that's more intuitive than "ALL".

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, and happy writing!

(2 edits) (+2)

Alright, thank you very much.  I'm sure AVG won't come up with anything fishy and then it probably won't bother anyone else about it

update: Yeah I checked and it opened smoothly this time.  I thought AVG would give me a notification when it was done checking the file but apparently not?

I'm happy to have the web version as well, because while I don't understand the code of the windows version, I am familiar with html and css which means I get to mess around with it.  Poking and prodding at code has become bit of a hobby of mine

(+2)

I just received the email with the update and rushed here.

I'm amazed 🎈🥳

The program is much better than I could have imagined.

The option to “hide” the text is great for someone, like me, who lives with roommates.

My suggestion is to make a post in the itch.io community and also in reedit and, of course, on Twitter. Your program has also just become a great space for outline and a lot of people need it.

I recommended it to some friends, but it's not something massive. I want to see everyone using and supporting this software.

You deserve much success after this impeccable work.

(+1)

Thanks for the kind words and suggestions! I was actually thinking of posting some things about WriteRush on reddit and other websites, and I'll definitely do that now. Also, thanks so much for recommending it to your friends! It's amazing to see such support from you!

Also, I really loved your idea for showing the data (like word count, words left to goal, etc) near the progress bars. If you have any more, tell me and I'll implement them!

Again, thanks!

(3 edits) (+2)

I have three suggestions:

1 - Increase the distance between lines. Before, as the CSS was visible and editable, I had made a small modification:

#typeArea {

     max-width: var(--typeAreaWidth);

     text-align: justify;

     line-height: 2em;

}

It's much better to write and read!

2 - This suggestion is more for the general improvement of other people. I suggest fonts for people with dyslexia. And also fonts that are better to read, such as “Merriweathe”, which was made for this!

3 - My last suggestion is that the timer's “progress bar” be a circle in the corner of the screen. I love doing sprints, but I'm not always in the mood, so not having a second “bar” would be really nice.

Example:

I just wanted to show the concept of being round that “fills”. A common little circle would be great and discreet. If you didn't want to use a timer, it would be something that doesn't “disrupt” your vision.

These are my suggestions! Thanks again for the incredible program, I spent the rest of the night writing yesterday!

(+2)

Hey! Super sorry for the late response!

1) This is a brilliant suggestion. It's also easy to implement. I'll add it to the next update!

2) More great suggestions! I'll add the option for dyslexia fonts and Merriweather.

3) I could add this one as well. But I'll have to think of how to make it intuitive. It'll be difficult to have the circle fit with the other elements and look good (e.g. chapter, note, and main text section), unless I want to have it directly on top of another. Most likely, I'll include a feature to disable the timer bar.

Thanks for the amazing suggestions! They help make WriteRush better for everyone!

(+2)

Sorry to invade the conversation, but do you know Focus Writer? It's an open source program that I like, but I don't use it because it doesn't have auto-save. I've already lost 1K words when the power went out.

It has the “Timer” in the corner of the screen and when activated, it turns black and loses color like clockwork. When I read @still_life suggestion I immediately thought about this program.

Exemple:

(+2)

Thanks for the example! And no problem with joining in on the conversation, your feedback is great!

I actually used FocusWriter for a while — it used to be my main writing software. But I use WriteRush now, of course. It was the source of much inspiration. My end goal for WriteRush is to have it be a seamless mix between StimuWrite (because of the writing effects), FocusWriter (because of how immersive and beautiful the UI is), and Scrivener (because of how useful the program is). And maybe something like Atticus far in the future (Book formatting) — but that's unlikely.

Also, thanks for adding the arrows! I find it funny that you added those. But very helpful.

Regarding the circle progress bar. I can probably add that in a future update. I'll make it an option to choose between line and circle progress bars — probably in the lower navbar like FocusWriter.

And on another note, I've been thinking of adding a hide-away interface like FocusWriter (where you put your mouse near the top or bottom to open up the menus). I'll probably add that to the next update!

Keep up the amazing suggestions!

Thanks!

(1 edit) (+2)

KURTIS OMG??? FNJKSKJDFDS IM SCREAMING IT IS AMAZINGGGG!!!

You outdid yourself! I'll start testing now!

(+1)

Hahahaha! It took a while to make, but yeah, the update is done!

Super glad to see you enjoy it! And thanks for the support!

(+1)

As soon as my credit card bill closes, I will send you coffees! You deserve it so much for the incredible work!

(+1)

Wow, thanks so much! Your support helps immensely, it keeps me motivated to make WriteRush even better!

If you see any bugs or have any suggestions for me to implement, please tell me! I'm always looking for ways to improve WriteRush, and you've helped so much with that!

Thanks again!

(+2)

Hi, I noticed a word count bug.

Words with an accent are not being counted (é, à, á, among others).

Words with tilde (~) are being counted double.

It's nothing serious, just wanted to let you know!

(+1)

Hey, thanks for telling me! It really helps to have someone someone so good at finding bugs!

I've already updated the word-count algorithm for the next update (V3.6). It should fix the problem with the tilde and hyphen. So now words separated by hyphens will count as one word (like "girl-friend", for example)

I'm working on still_life's suggestion, too. So that should be done in V3.6.

The main thing I'm focusing on is using something called IndexedDB to store the background images (instead of localStorage). This means that there will no longer be a size limit on the background images using the file-select method.

The reason that matters is because V3.6 will have OS-specific versions along with the .html file. This way you can have a stand-alone desktop application. (This also solves the bug where WriteRush .html files might use the same storage. Yay!) Although, the standalone versions don't allow you to manipulate the "assets" folder.

As for the words with accents, I'll have to update the word count algorithm further to fix it. That also happens for all non-ASCII characters. So people typing in Chinese, for example, would have a word count of 0. (键盘 this currently doesn't count as a word, so I have to change that.)

Thanks again!

(+1)

Oh, I see you're working hard on the update!

I am excited! ♥

(+1)

Hi, I don't know anything about app creation and I don't know if this helps in any way, but the word count of “ghostwriter” (open source: https://github.com/KDE/ghostwriter) is correct!  ♥

(+1)

Thanks for giving an example! The newest algorithm I created actually matches exactly with that. It will be available in the V3.6 update — which is taking me longer to do. It should come out in one or two weeks.

Anyway, thanks so much!

(+2)

🆙🆙🆙🆙

This app deserves more supporters

(+1)

Thanks so much for the kind words! They really help!

(+1)

OMG THE UPDATE LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHH!!!

(+1)

Hahaha! Thanks so much! It took a lot of work to get all the features done. I hope you enjoy it!

(+1)

Hi, I noticed two small bugs. Nothing urgent!

When the confetti is at the lowest level (other than off), the system is sluggish and the confetti comes out very slowly. I'm using it at medium level and with little shaking and the problem doesn't appear.

Another is that words with a hyphen (-) [hyphenated words], (example: ex-girlfriend) are counted as two instead of one!

Again, thank you for the amazing  app 💗

(+1)

Thanks! I'll make sure to fix those!

(+1)

Kurtis, first I'd like to apologize for English not being my first language.

I'd like to congratulate you on your work. WriteRush has quickly become my favorite way to write my book. Your work is amazing and seeing your update, I'm looking forward to the change in word count.

I would like to make a suggestion: put the writing information in the visible part. I know some people don't like that, they like a cleaner environment, but seeing how much I've written gives me strength !!!

Example: (progress bar)

🟧🟧🟧⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜30% (percentage)

30/100 words (how much you've written)

-70 words (how many words are missing)

Final example of how it would look:

🟧🟧🟧⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜30%
30/100, -70

Maybe it's too much to ask and I understand if it is! But, it would be very nice to have this information for anyone who wants it on the screen.

Thanks again for the amazing work.

Looking forward to the update :DDD

(+1)

Thanks so much for the support! It's incredibly motivating to see comments like yours!

I can definitely add a feature for that. I'll likely add an option in the settings menu that will enable it. Also, thanks for providing such a helpful example! I can see you've thought a lot about it!

I might add this to the next update (which should come out this Sunday), or maybe to the update after that. But I'll add it regardless!

Thanks!

(+2)

When I got the update email it was pretty late where I live, so I just wrote 100 words and went to sleep. Now, I was able to better put my thoughts into a text:

- How important is the “notes” part! Sometimes I forget what I had in the outline and when I “leave”, I lose the “will” to continue writing.

- Being able to put the desired amount more in the goal is really cool! I loved it, I put 100 words because I need a lot of stimulation hahaha

- The background with different tones was also very good! I would love it if it had other colors too, because I love writing with green and orange, or even images! Haha ha

- The new layout is amazing, very beautiful!

- The system is even lighter and faster. It's even faster to type and receive confetti. It looks great!

- The motivational message when it opens is just what I need! And I love that it now has “streak”.

- My biggest “problem“ is that it still counts *; — and others like words, but I end up putting a bigger w.c. to work around this, even though it's not that accurate.

- I noticed a small bug! When I clicked on “Fast Sounds (Better performance, less quality)” to test the sound, it worked fine, but when I removed the sound, pressing “none”, the screen froze full of confetti, I could write, but the confetti was “crushed .” I hit F5 and it went back to normal, it's nothing serious hahaha.

I loved the upgrade and I'm happy to be able to use this amazing tool <3

(+1)

I'm a little crazy about CSS and I know how to modify a little bit, I ended up changing the program's face hahaha

(+1)

Woah! That looks amazing!

You definitely know lots about CSS, because that looks great. I was actually thinking about adding a background image feature.

Thank you for the super extensive support! It's amazing to see such love and appreciation, and it really helps keep me motivated to code this. So thank you!

I can change the word count code so that it doesn't count symbol characters (i.e., ; - —, etc) as words. The code currently counts words by checking for any white-space around them — which doesn't account for symbols.

Thanks, and if you have any more suggestions, please tell me!

(+1)

I've just discovered the app and I'm delighted. Is very beautiful!

I'm writing a lot, along with StimuWrite!

I would like to comment that on my computer, it is a little slow, the words do not follow the typing.

Here are my settings:

  • AMD Ryzen 3 2200G with Radeon Vega Graphics       3.50 GHz
  • RAM  8,00 GB
  • 64 bits

Anyway, I loved everything! Thank you very much!

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you so much for the support! It really helps keep me motivated!

I've noticed the lag too. I actually had a performance update planned, but I'll move that up and do it sooner!

There are a couple super easy changes I'll make that can easily boost speed. The thing that immediately comes to mind is optimizing the code and maybe adding a performance option.

Thanks for giving your specs too that helps a lot!

And I love StimuWrite too. That's the main thing that inspired me to make this.

Anyway, I'll definitely fix the performance!

(Also, sorry for the late response! I was super busy and didn't see the message.)

(+1)

Ah, I'm excited about the upcoming update!

Thank you for the great program ♥

(+1)

Hey! I released a new update! It should run a little faster now.

I wanted to finish the update I was working on before starting the performance update. But I made some performance changes regardless. 😄

The main thing I did was cut down on functions that ran indefinitely -- I made the refresh rate lower, because it didn't need to be so high. I also added the options for "fast sounds", which should be less laggy. These won't sound as good, but it will definitely run faster.

If you can, please tell me if this runs faster. In theory, it should, but my computer specs differ from yours.

Also, if you have any other suggestions I would love to add them, I'm always looking for ways to improve WriteRush!

Anyway, enjoy the update!
